Four Madrigals on Renaissaance Texts is Lauridsen’s earliest collection and displays characteristics that recur in all of  his music,
1) lyrical vocal
lines, 
2) rhythmic vitality, 

3) sophisticated
contrapuntal procedures, and   4) sensitive and effective musical settings that complement the text. Based on the poems of Thomas Carew and Ben Jonson the Four Madrigals are designated SATB Chorus with optional flute, bassoon, violin,
cello, and
tambourine.

a native of  the Pacific Northwest, is Professor and Chair of Music Composition at the University of Southern California,  Los Angeles, CA. A student of Ingolf Dahl,  Halsey Stevens, and Robert Linn,
Dr.
Lauridsen’s music has been acclaimed world-wide and has been performed by major choral ensembles and orchestras. Among his numerous grants, prizes and commissions are awards from ASCAP,  Meet the Composer, Chorus America, ACDA, and the University of Southern California.
 
    
                
Mid-Winter
Mid-winter Songs.
Heralded by The Los Angeles Times as an “elegant, engaging, and effective setting. pungently scored, rhythmically varied, and highly flattering to a good chorus . . . accessible in the best sense.” This set of five songs,  1)Lament for Pasiphae,  2) Like Snow, 3) She Tells Her Love While Half Asleep, 
4) Mid-Winter Walking,  5)Intercession in Late October, is based on poems of Robert Graves.

Psalm 29 is an early composition of Dr. Lauridsen written for the USC
Chorus. This energetic psalm setting is a wonderful challenge for university and professional choruses. Rhythmically and harmonically complex.

Lament for Pasiphae is the opening  choral selection from Morten Lauridsen’s MID-WINTER SONGS. Released as a single for the Texas High School All-State this stunning composition musically stimulates both performer and audience with its powerful beauty. As the lyrics proclaim, “O dying sun, Shine warm a little  longer. . . Shine warm . ”
